Great review, Jordan. I have this in my dvd collection. A finely crafted movie to be sure. As to claims of it being the best movie of all time, well, I think that’s hyperbolic – can any one movie lay claim to that? I don’t think so.

No I don’t think any one movie can make that claim, but I was just floored by the story and its relevance to today. Not many 70 year old films can pull that off!

I’m currently watching a great doco on YouTube about him. He sounds like my type of director!

Nice review man. It really is incredible what Welles achieved with Citizen Kane, with its incredible acting, production values, screenwriting, and direction. And the story is still relevant today (you can replace the “Hearst” basis with Donald Trump and you pretty much transfer the bulk of the tale today). Undoubtely the most most important and influential film ever made.

Haha!! its funny you say that, I had actually written that you could compare Kane to someone like Trump but I deleted it. Oh well! But yeah, I was really blown away by how relevant it still is. Everything else I was expecting, but the story itself… it doesn’t feel aged at all!

Glad you enjoyed it! Citizen Kane is tricky to watch now because there’s been so much hype like you mention. I remember seeing it in a film class even back in the late ’90s and a bunch of the students hated it.

It was kinda tricky to write about at first, but then I noticed how relevant the story is and that kinda became the point of the post!
Thanks for reading mate 🙂

So glad you like this one. It is truly a marvel of filmmaking and inspired so many things that are still used in the craft, today. It’s non-linear style of storytelling is one of those, and as you mention it is still as good as anything ever in that regard. Great review!
